start of the earliest harvest ever

Today - 30 August 2017 - the earliest harvest of our domaine has started !
The first grapes brought into the cellar are grapes of the varieties "Pinotin" and "Pinot Noir précoce" (yes, "précoce" means early).

The unusually early and hot spring did already announce a possible early start of the harvest - from the time the vines flower, we count approximately 100 days until the beginning of the harvest.
To be seen as a further cause of the early harvest are the insect attacks (by Drosophila suzukii and the wasp). A longer waiting period would have resulted in a loss of quality of the grapes.

For more information on the monitoring of the Drosophila suzukii, a variety of the fruitfly that first appeared in Luxembourg in 2014 (first sightings in Europe in 2009), check out the website of the Wine Institute in Remich.

We continue the harvest in the coming days.
